08 — Electronics warranty & serials
What this screen is for
For electronics shops: record the serial number / IMEI of each unit you sell and its warranty period, then look up any unit later to check if it's still under warranty. This is optional — you turn it on only if you sell warranty items.
Before you start
- You are logged in as a manager/administrator (to change settings).
- You sell items that have warranties (phones, TVs, appliances…).
Step-by-step
1. Turn warranty tracking ON
Go to Settings and switch on Enable Warranty Tracking, then save. (It is off by default so normal supermarkets aren't bothered by it.)

2. Set a warranty period on the product
Edit the electronic product and set Warranty (months) — e.g. 12. Save.

3. Capture the serial/IMEI at sale time
When you sell that product on the POS, a box asks for the unit's serial / IMEI. Scan or type it and confirm — the warranty start date is recorded automatically.

4. Look up a unit's warranty later
Go to Inventory → 🔎 Warranty Lookup, type the serial/IMEI, and see the sale date, warranty months and whether it's still covered.

5. See warranties expiring soon
Inventory → 🛡 Warranty Report lists units whose warranty ends within 30 days.

Real example (using the demo data)
- Settings → Enable Warranty Tracking → Save. The 🔎 and 🛡 buttons now appear in Inventory.
- The demo has an electronics item with Warranty 12 months.
- Sell it on the POS → enter a serial like
SN-DEMO-12345→ complete the sale. - Inventory → 🔎 Warranty Lookup →
SN-DEMO-12345→ it shows the sale date and "in warranty".
If something goes wrong
| You see this | What it means | How to fix it |
|---|---|---|
| No 🔎 / 🛡 buttons | Warranty tracking is off. | Settings → Enable Warranty Tracking → Save. |
| No serial box at sale | The product has no warranty months set, or tracking is off. | Set Warranty (months) on the product and enable tracking. |
| Lookup says "not found" | That serial was never captured at sale. | Check the number; only sold units with a captured serial appear. |
FAQ
Q: We're a supermarket with no warranties — does this get in the way? A: No. It's off by default; the warranty buttons and serial prompts only appear once you enable it.
Q: Can I store IMEI for phones? A: Yes — the serial field accepts serial numbers or IMEIs.
Q: Where does the warranty start date come from? A: It's set automatically to the sale date when you capture the serial.
